JOHN CHALRES HANSEN, bass

Bass John Charles Hansen returns for his second season with the Helena Symphony where he first appeared in during the 2005-2006 Season in La Bohème as the philosopher “Coline.” Throughout his career Mr. Hansen has performed over 50 roles in opera, operetta, and musical theater in the mid-west and western states. In addition to the Helena Symphony, Mr. Hansen has performed regionally with the Utah Festival Opera, Opera Idaho, Idaho State Symphony and Idaho Falls Opera. He has also given several recitals at Brigham Young University, Idaho, where he served on the faculty.
In recent years Mr. Hansen has been active in Southern California where he has served as stage director and performer. Among his recent roles are the “Grand Inquisitor” in Don Carlo, “Figaro” in Le nozze di Figaro, and “Dulcamara” in Elixir of Love.
Mr. Hansen began college on a football scholarship but turned his attention to music after his first year. His training includes Bachelors and Masters Degrees in vocal performance from Oklahoma City University where he studied with George Massey and Paul Kiesgen and private study with Giorgio Tozzi.
