KRISTINE BILLER MATTSON, soprano

Soprano Kristine Biller Mattson returns to the Helena Symphony in the role of “Adina” in Donizetti’s Elixir of Love. Helena audiences heard her last season as “Micaëla” in Bizet’s Carmen.
Ms. Biller Mattson began her professional career in 1997 with Opera Roanoke in the role of “Second Lady” in Die Zauberflöte. Other roles have followed, including “Frasquita” in Carmen and the leading soprano role, “Wanda,” in The Grand Duchess of Gerolstein starring Stephanie Blythe, “Clorinda” with the Michigan Opera Theatre, in the critically acclaimed La Cenerentola, and “Sandmächen” in Hänsel und Gretel with the Opera Company of Philadelphia.
She has performed in two world premieres, including the role of “Caroline” in the much anticipated Margaret Garner at Michigan Opera Theater with the critically acclaimed cast including Denyce Graves, Angela Brown, Gregg Baker and Rodney Gilfry. She was the cover “Caroline” in a subsequent production at the Opera Company of Philadelphia. Her second world premier was The Happy Prince with Kentucky Opera.
In concert engagements, she has performed with Opera Naples, a holiday concert series with Stuart Neill, and the soprano solo in the Verdi Requiem with the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Ms. Biller Mattson has two recordings, Hymns of Promise, which includes original hymn arrangements by Dove award winner Sean Polluck, and Light in the Cradle, which features sacred Christmas music especially arranged by Philadelphia composer Roland Woehr.
Miss Biller Mattson received her Master of Music degree at Indiana University performing various leading lady roles: “Micaëla,” “Mimì,” “Princess Ninetta,” “Adina” and “Manon.” She has won various competitions including the Palm Beach Opera Competition, placing Second in the Collegiate Division and later Fourth in the Professional Division. She was the Second Prize Winner in the Florida Grand Competition in 2003.
