HAROLD GRAY MEERS, Tenor
Tenor Harold Gray Meers makes his debut with Maestro Scott and the Helena Symphony as “Nemorino” in Donizetti’s Elixir of Love. Mr. Meers has performed with many of America’s leading opera companies including those of San Francisco, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Baltimore, Boston, Virginia, Omaha, New Orleans, Santa Barbara, Sacramento, Toledo, Des Moines as well as the Glimmerglass Opera.
Upcoming engagements include his first “Duke” in Rigoletto for Opera Santa Barbara, “Narraboth” in Salome with Opera Cleveland, and “Nemorino” in Elixir of Love with Chatauqua Opera. He has recently performed “Ferrando” in Così fan tutte for Sacramanto Opera as well as “Tamino” in The Magic Flute. Last season Mr. Meers appeared as “Rinuccio” in Gianni Schicchi in Santa Barbara and “Alfred” in Die Fledermaus in Sacramento.
In the United States, Mr. Meers has performed principal roles in La Traviata, Lucia di Lammermoor, The Threepenny Opera, The Merry Widow, Così fan tutte, Don Pasquale, The Magic Flute, and the title role in La Clemenza di Tito. Mr. Meers has also appeared in Billy Budd, Susannah, Aridane auf Naxos, The Grand Duchess of Gerolstein, and Hamlet. Overseas, he performed the role of “Ferrando” in Così fan tutte in Bangkok.
Mr. Meers holds a Bachelor’ of Arts degree from Judson College and a Master of Music degree from Illinois State University. He resides in Springfield, Illinois, with his wife, soprano Saundra deAthos.
