ANNE BASINSKI, Soprano

Well known to Helena audiences, Soprano Anne Basinski returns
to the Helena Symphony to perform in Grieg’s Incidental
Music from Peer Gynt. She appeared last season
in Messiah and in the 2004-2005 season in Mozart’s Mass
in C major, Coronation, and Exsultate jubilate.
Ms. Basinski holds graduate degrees from Indiana University,
is on the faculty of the University of Montana, where she
teaches voice in both the Music and Drama/Dance Departments,
and is also director of the Opera Theater.
Most recently, Ms. Basinski performed in Arthur Nevin’s Poia,
about the Blackfeet legend of Scarface, which was a signature
event for the Lewis & Clark centennial celebration in
Great Falls in July 2005. She also revised the original
libretto for the performances. In August 2005, Ms. Basinski
was the soprano soloist for the Northwest Mahler Festival
in Seattle, where she was heard in Barber’s Prayers
of Kierkegaard and Mahler’s Symphony No. 2.
Other professional credits include operatic roles with the
Indianapolis Opera; Ohio Light Opera, Intermountain Opera
of Bozeman, where she was seen as Zerlina in Don Giovanni; and
the Rimrock Opera of Billings, where she sang Rosina in Il
Barbiere di Siviglia. She has been a featured
soloist with other Montana orchestras, including the Glacier
Orchestra and Chorale, Missoula Symphony Orchestra, Butte
Symphony, Bozeman Symphony, and Helena Chamber Singers in
such works as Mozart’s Mass in C minor, Handel’s Messiah,Mozart’s Requiem,
the Vivaldi Gloria, Vaughan-Williams’ Sea
Symphony and Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis. She
has been heard in recital at the Butte Mother Lode Theater,
at St. Timothy’s Summer Festival, and as the soprano
soloist for the “Rolling Requiem” performances
of the Mozart Requiem in memoriam of September 11.
Ms. Basinski served as producer and teacher of the Von Trapp
children, great-grandchildren of the Captain Von Trapp of Sound
of Music fame. Anne produced their CD (The
Von Trapp Children) and their full-length concert for Musikfest in
Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
