LINDA WANG, Violin

Violinist Linda Wang is among the premier young violinists
of our time, consistently praised for her artistry, warm,
singing tone and charismatic performances. Since her
solo debut with the New York Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta
at the age of nine, Ms. Wang has been captivating audiences
and critics in concerts through out the United States, Europe,
and Asia in recital and with orchestra. In the United
States she has performed with orchestras in California, Colorado,
Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Oregon, South Carolina,
Texas, and Virginia.
Internationally, she was the guest soloist with Sir Georg
Solti and the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival Orchestra,
Salzburg Chamber Orchestra, Paris Sinfonietta, Germany’s
Sächsische Kammerphilharmonie Dresden, Philharmonisches
Orchester des Vogtland and The Czech Republic’s Southern
Bohemian Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra, with which she toured. In
Asia, her appearances have included an enthusiastically received
debut with the Philippines Philharmonic Orchestra. Her
many festival appearances include those of Spoleto, Aldeburgh,
and Salzburg.
Domestic and international audiences have seen her televised
performances on PBS, Arts and Entertainment, Germany’s
ZDF, Japan’s NHK, while radio broadcasts include NPR’s “Performance
Today,” WQXR (New York City), WFMT (Chicago), Kmozart
and KKGO (Los Angeles), MDR (German), Leipzig Rundfunk, and
Deutschland radio, Berlin.
Ms. Wang won first prize at the International Markneukirchen
Competition in Germany, the NFMC Young Artist Auditions,
and the International Kingsville Competition in Texas. Other
honors include winning an award at the International Geneva
Music Competition (CIEM), and the Waldo Mayo Award honoring
New York’s best young performer.
After studying at The Juilliard School and the University
of Southern California, Ms. Wang was awarded a Fulbright
scholarship and pursued advanced studies at the famed Salzburg
Mozarteum. Her principal teachers include world renowned
instructors such as Dorothy DeLay, Alice Schoenfeld, and
Ruggiero Ricci.
Recently Ms. Wang served on the faculty of the University
of the Pacific’s Conservatory of Music, teaching violin
and chamber music and recently became a professor of violin
at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music. She
frequently performs as a member of the New Pacific Trio and
continues as a touring artist of the California Arts Council.
Ms. Wang makes her debut with Maestro Scott and the HelenaSymphony
performing the Prokofiev’s Second Violin Concerto. She
performs on a J.B. Guadagnini violin built in 1767.
