Seventy-six years after The Wizard of Oz debuted on the big screen, the Helena Symphony brings the film to the big screen in all its glory, accompanied by the Helena Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, November 14 at 3 p.m. in the Helena Civic Center.

The Technicolor print of the 1939 iconic film has been completely re-mastered for this incredible screening. The voices of Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr, Jack Haley, and Margaret Hamilton are on the large movie screen as the HSO performs the beloved soundtrack, including “Over the Rainbow,” named the greatest movie song of all time. New technology allows the original vocals and dialogue to remain intact while the score is performed live by the full orchestra, providing a brand-new way to immerse yourself in the wonders of Oz, the perfect family entertainment.

The Wizard of Oz was a technical marvel for the MGM studio in the late 1930s. MGM has stunningly re-mastered this timeless classic, and in this version, produced by John Goberman (who created Live from the Lincoln Center thirty years ago), the brilliantly restored images are accompanied by the HSO playing entirely new transcriptions of Harold Arlen’s brilliant lost scores. Hearing Judy Garland’s original 1939 vocals backed by lush, live orchestration, will transport children and adults alike. With this presentation of The Wizard of Oz on the big screen, moviegoers will be treated to the Oscar-winning film as it has never been experienced before.

“This concert has been a long-time goal of Maestro Scott’s, and we are so excited to be able to bring this to Helena, explains Director of Artistic Planning Teak Schummer. “It truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience one of the greatest films of American culture accompanied by an orchestra. We have lowered ticket prices and made this concert a 3 p.m. matinee in so that audiences of all ages can attend.”

Come “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” with the incomparable Judy Garland as Dorothy, the renowned Ray Bolger as the Scarecrow, the lovable Bert Lahr as the Cowardly Lion, and the kind-hearted Jack Haley as the Tin-Man. Costumes are encouraged, but optional.

This is a Non-Series Concert and not part of the Masterworks Subscription Series. All seats are reserved, and tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for children (17 and under). Tickets can be purchased online at helenasymphony.org 24 hours a day, or by calling the Symphony Box Office (406.442.1860), or at the Symphony Box Office located on the Walking Mall at the Livestock Building (2 N.
