    Share romance with the fire of flamenco! The timeless world of dream-like Spain and the allure of flamenco come alive with the HSO and Solero Flamenco, including dancer, singer, and guitarist. The concert features Spanish gypsy-inspired flamenco music, such as Falla’s El amor brujo (Love bewitched), Rodrigo’s Guitar Concerto, and many more. The performance features sensual dancing, strummed guitar, and ethnic singing. Experience this evening of unforgettable tragic passion.

    Internationally renowned Pianist and Van Cliburn Gold Medalist Jon Nakamatsu makes his HSO debut with the best-known concerto of all time – Tchaikovsky’s irresistible and virtuosic Piano Concerto No. 1. The concert also features Debussy’s reflective and colorful Printemps (Spring), and Four Sea Interludes from Benjamin Britten’s psychological thriller Peter Grimes.

    The music of America’s musical theatres comes to the Big Sky! Celebrated and award-winning and Tonynominated Broadway stars Doug LaBrecque and Christiane Noll perform some of Broadway’s greatest hits, including highlights from The Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables, Wicked, West Side Story, Show Boat, Cabaret, Chicago, Hairspray, Mamma Mia, and American in Paris.
    The evening culminates with one of the best fireworks shows in Montana, sponsored by the Helena Community Credit Union. Last season over 16,000 people attended this wonderful tradition, so pack your blankets and picnics as the Helena Symphony & Carroll College present the 13th annual Symphony Under the Stars. This is a FREE PERFORMANCE! Limited reserved seats go on sale June 1.

    The Symphony’s Composer in Residence, Kile Smith, has been proclaimed as “spellbinding and having a direct emotional appeal.” His Psalm 46 coupled with Copland’s Old American Songs provides a sacred
    American spirit of artful simplicity. The program culminates with French master Maurice Ravel’s evocative and atmospheric Daphnis and Chloé – one of the great masterworks of the last century.

In addition to an unprecedented special program in Montana for families of all ages, the concert also celebrates the 150th birthday of the city of Helena. The evening culminates with one of the best fireworks shows in Montana sponsored by the Helena Community Credit Union.

    Pack your blankets and picnics as the Helena Symphony & Carroll College present the tenth annual Symphony Under the Stars. To celebrate 10 years of one Montana’s largest events, the Helena Symphony Orchestra presents the ever popular music of Latin America. From congas to mambos, the concert is all about rhythm and dance that is energetic, exuberant, and most of all, infectious. The evening culminates with one of the best fire works shows in Montana sponsored by the Helena Community Credit Union.

  • MASTERWORKS CONCERT I: Opening Night Concert Celebration ~ Heroic Portraits

    Saturday, 14 September 2013, 7:00 p.m., Helena Civic Center

    The 59th Season opens with newly-elected Governor Steve Bullock narrating the powerful words by and about President Lincoln in Copland’s Lincoln Portrait Copland’s spirit of Americana is coupled with maverick Charles Ives’ Symphony No. 2, complete with gospel tunes, American songs, and barn-dancing fiddles. The season opener culminates with Beethoven’s revolutionary testament in his groundbreaking and mighty Eroica Symphony.

    The evening concludes with a dessert reception in the Helena Civic Center Ballroom.

  • MASTERWORKS CONCERT II: Viva Verdi!

    Saturday, 19 October 2013, 7:30 p.m., Helena Civic Center

    Several internationally-noted opera singers join the Helena Symphony Orchestra & Chorale for a celebration of opera master Giuseppe Verdi for his 200th birthday! From the elephants and tombs of Aïda and Shakespeare’s outscale heroes, to the epic romances in La Traviata and tragedy of Rigoletto, Verdi’s dramas define the parameters of Grand Opera. The concert includes highlights from nearly a dozen of Verdi’s operas.

  • NON-SUBSCRIPTION CONCERT I: Christmas in the Cathedral

    Sunday, 8 December 2013, 7:30 p.m., Cathedral of Saint Helena

    The Helena Symphony ushers in the holiday with C.P.E. Bach’s (one of J.S. Bach’s twenty children) celebratory Magnificat, and patriarch J.S. Bach’s massive St. Anne Prelude & Fugue. The intimacy of the season is captured by British composer Gerald Finzi’s touching In Terra Pax.

    Internationally-renowned virtuoso Pianist Joel Fan (a member of Yo Yo-Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble) performs Liszt’s powerful Piano Concerto No. 1 and a percussive piano masterpiece by Polish composer Karol Szymanowski. Beethoven’s beautiful, fiery, and harmoniously rich Fourth Symphony caps off the concert.

  • YOUTH CONCERT: Peter VS. The Wolf

    Thursday, 20 February 2014, 1:00 p.m., Helena Civic Center

    Nearly 2,000 fourth and fifth graders from over seven school districts throughout Montana are invited through their school music programs to attend a concert created just for them, The young music lovers are entertained and inspired all while learning the importance of music in one’s education and life.

    Tickets are not sold for this concert – students attend through their school music program.

  • MASTERWORKS CONCERT IV: Bernstein & Beethoven

    American legend Leonard Bernstein’s compelling and thrilling Chichester Psalms is coupled with memorable moments from Borodin’s opera Prince Igor. HSO’s season “Beethoven Trilogy” concludes with the unmistakable and triumphant Fifth Symphony.
