to perform the Montana premiere of his new violin concerto – Edge of a Dream. Opening Night continues with the
Third Symphony by Florence Price, the first African American woman to be recognized as a symphonic composer.

MASTERWORKS CONCERT II: Puccini & Schumann

Featuring acclaimed Pianist Carl Cranmer, Schumann’s Piano Concerto recalls his love for his wife with
sweeping melodies and tenderness, and the concert includes Puccini’s spiritually passionate and
rarely heard Messa di Gloria.

MASTERWORKS CONCERT III: Beethoven’s Triple & Mahler’s Fifth

The internationally renowned Trio Casals performs Beethoven’s masterful Triple Concerto and the HSO brings tragedy
to triumph with the emotionally overwhelming Symphony No. 5 by Mahler.

MASTERWORKS CONCERT IV: Brahms, Dvořák, and the Return of Cellist Amit Peled

World acclaimed Israeli American Cellist Amit Peled returns to perform Dvořák’s brilliant Cello Concerto.
Brahms’ heartfelt and hauntingly tender Third Symphony opens the concert.

MASTERWORKS CONCERT V: The Bells of Ecstasy

Considered by Rachmaninoff to be his greatest work, The Bells sets the descriptive words of Edgar Allan Poe to paint
musical poetry. The HSO presents one of the first performances of New Zealand Composer John Psathas’
All Seeing Sky, an evocative work for two percussionist soloists and orchestra, and Alexander Scriabin’s mystical
Poem of Ecstasy is an erotic, existential, all-consuming experience!

MASTERWORKS CONCERT VI: Swan Lake & Cavalleria Rusticana
Saturday, 4 May 2024, 7:30 p.m., Helena Civic Center

Tchaikovsky’s timeless tale of love and transformation captured in the music from the ballet Swan Lake opens
the concert with Mascagni’s one act Cavalleria Rusticana portraying the tragic story of betrayal, jealousy,
and the secrets of a love triangle.

Created for children 5-10, these imaginative 30-minute performances with narration and actors, introduce
children to the world of music and instruments, and impart life lessons through interactive stories. Following
each concert, children are invited to try instruments at the Instrument Petting Zoo (sponsored by Piccolo’s Music).
These FREE PERFORMANCES are all held at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

ANNUAL YOUTH CONCERT: Peter VERSUS The Wolf
Wednesday, 17 April 2024, 1:00 p.m., Helena Civic Center

Nearly 2,000 fourth and fifth graders from all over the region learn the importance of music in one’s education and life.
The concert will feature the exciting music of Prokofiev’s Peter & The Wolf – BUT with a twist.
Tickets are not sold for this concert, as students attend through their school music program
