The Helena Symphony returns to the concert hall on Saturday March 21st with The Planets! Get transported through the cosmos – from the might of Mars to the serenity of Neptune! Holst’s celestial masterpiece The Planets is coupled with Jennifer Higdon’s GRAMMY® award-winning, rip-roaring Harp Concerto performed by HSO Principal Harpist Tess Flammond.

“Join your Helena Symphony & Chorale as they present two magnificent works by composers Gustav Holst and Jennifer Higdon! First, hear Helena’s own Tess Flammond showcase the harp’s virtuosity and expressive range in Higdon’s shimmering Harp Concerto. The evening peaks with Holst’s musical depiction of The Planets. This epically vivid orchestral suite portrays the astrological character of each planet through Holst’s brilliant orchestration and bold sonic color.”

Tiana Grise, Director of Artistic Planning

“Today, Holst is best known as a ‘one hit wonder,’ as The Planets is his only work regularly performed other than a few pieces that Holst-fans occasionally program,” explains Maestro Allan R. Scott. “The music of The Planets is more massive and somewhat more radical than anything Holst composed.  The work uses a vastly expanded orchestra in which every section of the orchestra has been increased.”
