Finnish violinist Petteri Iivonen returns to Helena for the Helena Symphony’s opening night concert, performing Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 7:30 p.m. at the Helena Civic Center.

The concert will be followed by a reception in the civic center ballroom with champagne, Parrot candy and delectables.

The Barber concerto is one of Iivonen’s favorite works, he said in an IR interview from his home in Tampere, Finland. This will be the first time he’s played the Barber piece in the United States.
